The 2007 Spring Gala - Mother Nature Finally Gives Us a Break!

Spring Gala Recap
April 14, 2007
An Early Start – Will the Weather Hold Up?
The chilly morning started early for those on the VCMHC Fund raising Committee and the Tara Farm crew. For a while the clouds looked extremely ominous
and everyone was hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst – since the Gala weather had been less than ideal in the past.
This was my first Spring Gala as well as my first trip to Tara Farm. I was awestruck by the serenity of the farm and could not wait to meet the horses, pet the
new babies (of which there were many), and enjoy the beautiful day sharing the Morgan Spirit! Special thanks to everyone at Tara Farm for allowing us to
hold this event at your beautiful farm!
The Tack Exchange
The day started with the “Tack Exchange” at 10:00am, situated outside the main barn area. Since the day was still early and the weather looked uncertain, we
did not start having real traffic until about 11:30 or so and we sold about half of the items that were placed in the sale. The sellers donated 10% of their total sales
to the Club, so thank you sellers for your generosity, which resulted in extra fund raising dollars for the Club! Thanks to those who participated in the “Tack
Exchange” and we hope to do this again, but on an even larger scale!
The Hoof Clinic
During the Tack Exchange, just inside the barn, there was a “Hoof Clinic” going on at 11:30am. There were breakfast goodies and coffee available for
everyone to enjoy, while our very own club member, Harry Daughtry, was the special guest Farrier. Mr. Daughtry discussed different techniques and hoof
issues while he shod a very well-mannered horse from Tara Farm. Mr. Daughtry answered many questions, while the 20+ onlookers learned a little more
about the delicate skill involved in good hoof care.
Heading to the Pavilion on the Pond
At 1:00pm, everyone from the main barn and tack exchange area moved down to the pond for the picnic and festivities. The covered pavilion overlooking the
pond was a welcoming venue for everyone to enjoy food and drinks and discuss their favorite hobby - Morgans! By this time, the sun was shining brightly
and folks wandered over to the Gazebo where the Silent Auction items were up for bid. The silent auction displayed items ranging from baseball caps to
equine massage services to canine goodie bags to Morgan magazine subscriptions and everything in between! The main pavilion also displayed a wonderful
collage of photographs of Morgans in action, courtesy of Mary Daughtry, who serves on the VCMHC Board of Directors. This collage captured the versatility
and beauty of Morgans proudly showing off ribbons in a range of disciplines. This beautiful display will also be used to promote the Morgan enthusiasm at
many upcoming events!
Club Meeting & Dessert Contest – And the Winner Is. . .
The festivities continued with corn on the cob, BBQ and fixin's, along with beverages suitable for all ages! At 2:00pm, our VCMHC Vice President, Andrée
Vetrano, presided over the Club Meeting. We heard updates from all committees. Of course, with the Morgan show being just around the corner, most of the
information was related to this big day. In addition, Pete Jeager, our resident Dessert Judge, announced the winner of the “Dessert Contest”. It was a difficult
job for Pete, but he managed to get through it. Congratulations to Wendy Ehrlich for her famous “Mom’s Chocolate Chip Sour Cream Coffee Cake”! Also
congrats to the other contestants whose desserts were also very delicious!
Congratulations to Julie!
In the afternoon, a special announcement was made to give special thanks to our very own Julie Broadway. As you all know by now, Julie has taken on a
challenge for “greener pastures” to become the AMHA Executive Director in Vermont! This is wonderful news for Julie and her family, as well as for our Club,
as we will have such a wonderful connection in such a prestigious position. Plus, we can rest assured that Julie will ensure our vision and goals are continued
for the Morgan breed. Special thanks to Wendy and Mitch Ehrlich for creating the customized “Congrats Julie” labels for the champagne toast!
Live Auction
The day continued with a Live Auction around 4:00pm, which resulted in more fund raising dollars to the Club! The live auction items consisted of a “Party at
the Barn” from Murphy House, a handmade silver bracelet designed by Christy Jaeger Clark, a Camcorder & PDA and more!
Take the VCMHC Challenge!
This year, the Spring Gala turned a profit of over $2,000! Thanks to all of you who helped make it a success! Let's make next year an even bigger success! I
am tasking all Morgan Club members to make a group goal - not only to continue promoting the Morgan Spirit, but also that each of you bring just ONE
GUEST to next year’s Spring Gala 2008. This will ensure that we at least double what we made this year and continue to spread the Morgan enthusiasm we
all share! Are you up for the CHALLENGE? For those of you looking for ways to get folks interested in Morgans and in possibly joining the club, just bring
them to the show in May!
Please feel free to contact the Fund raising Committee with any comments, suggestions, etc – we are always looking for new ways to improve and gain more
results!
